Overview

This course is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills required to demonstrate the selection and safe fitting of abrasive wheels in accordance with manufacturer’s guidance and current legislation. This Abrasive Wheels Training Course is designed to assist in reducing the risk of injury for anyone who uses abrasive wheels at work. It guides you through the different types of abrasive wheels how to store them and how and how they should be inspected prior to use and how to be used safely. Our Abrasive Wheels Training will give all candidates hands-on practical training on techniques required to inspect maintain and replace various abrasive wheels.

Who should attend?

This abrasive wheels training course is legally required for all those who are involved in the purchase & selection, storage & handling, mounting, dressing, and use of abrasive wheels. This includes either fixed (e.g. Bench grinders or polishers) or portable (e.g. angle grinders) abrasive wheels for dressing, truing or changing the wheels on a pedestal or bench grinder there needs to be a higher level of training than just a half day general awareness course. A poorly maintained or fitted wheel can cause significant damage to the user if it bursts.

What's Covered

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator.
  • Select a suitable piece of equipment (tool) for the required task.
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturers information and be familiar with the other sources of information available including relevant legislation.
  • Be able to locate and identify key features and explain their functions.
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements. Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for equipment being used.
  • Select a suitable type of abrasive wheel relative to the work being undertaken Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area and set up a suitable safety zone.
  • Prepare the machine for use an operate machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Environmental considerations Storage and transport of abrasive wheel / battery / fuel Carry out all end of shift and shut down
