Overview

To inform slingers in the techniques and knowledge required to safely sling and direct suspended loads, administering a practical test for operators. On completion of this training course, operators should have knowledge of their duties in relation to lifting accessories. Use lifting accessories safely and in accordance with the manufacturers guide lines and accepted good practice The aim of the Slinger Signaller Training is to provide both theoretical and practical training in the safe and efficient operation of slinging and moving loads using hand signals or radios Guided by the Lift Supervisor. To provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills to safely operate as a Slinger/Signaller, delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical training and exercises This course will provide delegates with the necessary skills, knowledge, and training for the role of the Slinger/Signaller as part of the overall lifting operations team. It is suitable for those with responsibility for slinging loads and signalling for the movement of loads. This course focuses primarily on slinging and signalling operations using a mobile crane, however, the skills, knowledge, and training can be applied to all lifting operations.

Who should attend?

This training course is designed for operators who are involved in lifting operations where the use of various accessories are required to safely lift and support a load or to guide the load into the designated destination Slinger/signallers who have little or no previous slinging signalling and lifting experience. Or operators who wish to refresh their knowledge.

What's Covered

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a Slinger / Signaller.
  • Be able to confirm to manufacturers requirements as per technical data, confirm to relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Be able to locate, identify and explain different types of lifting equipment and lifting accessories.
  • Explain their basic construction, uses, applications and their functions.
  • Be able to interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation.
  • Undertake all pre-use checks on non-specialist lifting accessories and identify non-serviceable items.
  • Explain procedures for placing non-serviceable items out-of-service.
  • Identify and explain centres of gravity and calculate estimated weights of loads.
  • Set up exclusion zone explaining actions required for emergency actions, identifying any overhead hazards.
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for Slinger / Signaller use.
  • Secure various types of loads to a hook using the relevant lifting accessories and procedures ensuring load balance, security and integrity.
  • Direct and guide the movement of loads to different types of location using different methods of communication.
  • Environmental considerations.
  • Carry out all out-of service and securing procedures.
